UNDERSTANDING FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS IN THE FUR TRADE

FRANCOIS LEBER (1626-1694) was the father of JOACHIM LEBER (1664–1695) and MARIE LE BER (1666–1756)

FRANCOIS LEBER’S brother was JACQUES LEBER DIT LAROSE (1633–1706). JACQUES LEBER was a business partner in the earliest fur trading post at Montreal with CHARLES LE MOYNE SIEUR DE LONGUEUIL (1626-1685), who is also his brother-in-law.

MARIE LE BER married FRANCOIS BOURASSA (1659-1708). Their daughter, MARIE ELISABETH BOURASSA (1695-1766), married JACQUES PINSONNEAULT DIT LAFLEUR (1682-1773). They were early pioneers in La Prairie de la Magdeleine.

MARIE ELISABETH BOURASSA’S brother was RENE BOURASSA DIT LARONDE (1688-1778) a famous fur trader who traveled with PIERRE GAULTIER DE LA VERENDRYE.

MARIE LE BER was also the grand daughter of ANNE GODEFROY (1615-1678) whose brothers — THOMAS GODEFROY DE NORMANVILLE and JEAN GODEFROY DE LINTOT — came to New France with SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN.

On my blog, “La Prairie Voyageurs,” I’ve written several posts that need to show the family relationships to better understand the fur trade in early La Prairie de la Magdeleine.
