Hi Jerry,
ReplyDeleteI'm planning a trip through Quebec in July for both a summer vacation and to conduct in person genealogy. I've learned that my 4th - 6th grandparents lived in La Prairie, Canada from the early 1700's to the mid-1800's. I'm wondering if I do go, where I would go to see if I can find birth and death records - and any other information (old local newspapers on microfiche, for example). I know this is a tall order but I learned that no everything is digitized and some information has to be found in person. Do you have any advice? I'm also open to paying for genealogy assistance while I'm there.
Absolutely no worries if you do not but I thought I would reach out to ask.
If you're curious, the surnames of my great grandparents who lived there are the following: Boisdore, Gagne, Barbeau, Bulteau, Muir, Bertrand and Gauthier
Thanks so much!
Bob Brier
I forgot to give you my email address - which is brier.bob@gmail.com - if you prefer to contact me there.
DeleteThanks!
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteMost of my research came from reading and online records. Ancestry and Quebec archives have a lot to offer. If I was going to make that trip I'd try to locate a Montreal area genealogist who could do some of the early research first. Good luck.
Regards,
Jerry
Great research indeed Jerry!
ReplyDeleteKudos to the great blog!
I’m a newcomer in the field of genealogy ... but a fan of French Canadian History (being myself French Canadian), married to a Rousseau (F) - Perras (M) ! I’ve also decided to leave this great “gift” to our kids, which I’m convinced, one day, they will appreciate (-;
Best regards,
Francois
Thanks for your comments Francois. I wish you every success in your new journey.
ReplyDeleteWarmest regards,
Jerry
Thanks cousin for posting these stories. i know it was alot of work to get all this information and post it. It could only be a labor of love. I see alot of my ancestors in these stories.
ReplyDeleterod Gebo/Gibeau
You're welcome cousin. Glad you found something useful.
DeleteHI Jerry thank you for this great blog. Lucy Passino is my 4th cousin 4 times removed.I guess that would make us distant cousins? I am also interested in the old west and was a paratrooper in the Canadian army. Hope to meet up one day. all the best. Brian
ReplyDeleteWow! We do have a lot in common. Thanks for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteStay strong and safe. Jerry
